Need Concrete Core Drilling? 4 Safety Tips To Follow When Visiting The Construction Site

by Patrick Taylor

If you're having concrete core drilling performed on your property, your contractor will most likely request that you avoid the worksite. Core drilling is a dangerous task, which requires constant attention to safety standards. While the work is proceeding, your contractor may require you to come by the construction site. If that's the case, you'll need to follow all safety procedures to avoid accidents or injuries. Here are four steps that will help you stay safe while at the site.

1. Come Prepared With Safety in Mind

If you're going to be visiting the construction site while concrete core drilling is being performed, it's crucial that you come prepared with safety in mind. This begins with the clothing you're wearing. The one thing you should know is that you should never wear ordinary street clothing to a construction site, especially when concrete drilling is underway. Instead, dress for a construction site. First, wear steel-toed boots for proper foot protection. You should also wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Finally, be sure to wear a hard hat that fits properly, as well as safety goggles and heavy-duty gloves.

2. Wait to Be Escorted Onto the Property

When you arrive at the construction site, you may be tempted to walk directly onto the property. However, that's one of the easiest ways to suffer a serious injury, especially if you don't know where the active drilling is taking place. To avoid accidents and injuries, to yourself and others, wait to be escorted onto the property. It's a good rule of thumb to provide an estimated time of arrival so that the foreman can be ready for your visit.

3. Maintain a Safe Distance From the Equipment

As with any construction site, there will be heavy equipment throughout the site. You want to maintain a safe distance from all equipment, especially where active drilling is occurring. If you do need to approach the equipment, let the site foreman take the lead and guide you through the site.

4. Don't Let Curiosity Get the Best of You

Concrete core drilling involves the creation of deep holes. You may be curious about what the actual holes look like, or how deep they go. While you're visiting the site, don't let curiosity get the best of you. Serious injuries can occur if you fall into the hole. Not only that, but you could be injured by the equipment, especially if you lean over to look into the pit.
